For most children losing baby teeth is a big deal, especially that first tooth! The Tooth Fairy has been a part of childhood tradition for more than a century. According to folklore, when a child loses a baby tooth, if he or she places it beneath the bed pillow, the tooth fairy will visit while the child sleeps, replacing the lost tooth with a small payment.
Now parents can create their own traditions and put a creative spin on Tooth Fairy visits. Here are a few ideas:
1. Leave a note from the tooth fairy.
Pull out your favorite stationary, glitter pen and cursive handwriting and write your child a short note from the tooth fairy! You can praise them for doing such a great job of brushing and flossing their teeth, or maybe make the Tooth Fairy the bad guy and have her tell them they need to be a little more careful about those sticky sweets and home hygiene.
2. Make extra-special tooth fairy money.
Add a coat of clear, glitter nail polish or glitter hairspray to your child’s tooth fairy bills or coins as fairy dust. Use this to motivate your child to continue practicing good oral hygiene.
3. Leave a new toothbrush.
If this is your child’s first lost tooth, have the tooth fairy leave a brand new toothbrush under the pillow instead of money to encourage good brushing habits.
4. Leave a fairy shadow behind.
Do a quick Google search for “fairy shadow holding a sparkling white teeth”and print it out. Cut it out and tape it up on the wall high enough that your child can’t reach it but they can still see it.
Good Luck!!! 🙂
